Social enterprise and award-winning charity, Oxford Wood Recycling was established to address a wasteful attitude towards wood and a desire to relieve unemployment by providing jobs, work placements, training and volunteering opportunities.

Oxford Wood Recycling (OWR) recognised that investment in their online presence would help to realise their ambitious plans and continue to achieve their social mission. ads creative solutions were tasked with building a new website to give details of their wood collection services, recycled timber sales and employment opportunities for people who have faced disadvantage in the workplace. Specifically extending the scope of the site to engage with a ‘wider and deeper’ audience for the wood shop and promote a new range of indoor and outdoor furniture.

what we did

Following an audit of the existing three-page website we carefully considered the construction and navigation around a significantly larger thirty-page site. The new website needed to appeal to the broad variety of audiences, from commercial property developers to the DIY enthusiasts that OWR engage with.

Drawing on customer insight we mapped customer journeys for each persona from beginning to end to ensure it was simple and logical and there was a clear call to action. A natural blue/green colour palette was selected, along with typography to complement the OWR branding and reflect the overarching environmental and social mission of the business.


The new OWR website saw an overall increase in visits to the site of 236% over the previous month.
The number of pages visited increased significantly to an average of 8.12 pages per website visit with a remarkable reduction in bounce rate from 53.33% down to just 2.98%. OWR were delighted with their new website.
